Oh how sad it has been this week- we had a big snow storm here in Massachusetts- for those friends not here - and we here at The Cottage Garden had no power from Saturday evening through Thursday late afternoon! You realize how dependent we are on electricity...no heat, hot water, phone, stove --our house is on the town everything and we do not have a wood stove or a camp stove ( but it is on the list of things to have on hand...just in case!) so we were cold and closed all week and no Halloween. Now all my friends and colleagues know I adore Halloween and we sing songs, carved a pumpkin and we probably would have baked some pumpkin muffins but we were thwarted in some of these activities. The dress ups came out and we had knights and princesses and princes all last week, singing Halloween songs and telling hobgoblin stories and pumpkin stories so I have attempted to sing some of our favorite songs for you and will see if I can actually attach them for you. Here are all the words-
HALLOWEEN SONGS
Song
Halloween
there are witches in the air!
Have
you seen their shadows everywhere?
So
beware and take care or they'll pull your hair!!!
VERSE
I’m
stirring and stirring and stirring the brew,
I’m
stirring and stirring and stirring the brew
Tip
toe, tip toe
Boo!!!
Witch Song
words
and music by P. Alessandri
There
was an old witch believe it if you can.
She
tapped on the window and she ran, ran, ran.
She
ran helter skelter with her toes in the air.
Cornstalks
flying from the witch's hair!
Swish
went the broomstick, meow went the cat.
Plop
went the hop toad sitting on her lap.
Weeeeeeee
said I such funny, funny, fun...
Halloween
night when the witches run!!!
Halloween Poem
3
little ghostesses
Sitting
on postesses
Eating
buttered toastesses
Greasing
their fistesses
Up
to their wristesses
Ohhh
what beastesses
To
have such feastesses!!!
Song
I sing this using a
little scarecrow stick puppet
I’m
a jingle jangle scarecrow, with a flippy, floppy hat
I
can shake my hands like this, I can tap my feet like that
When
all the cows are sleeping,
And
the moons behind the barn,
Up
jumps the scarecrow and sings right out loud.
I’m
a jingle jangle scarecrow, with a flippy, floppy hat
I
can shake my hands like this, I can tap my feet like that
When
all the hens are roosting
And
the moons behind the barn,
Up
jumps the scarecrow and sings right out loud.
I’m
a jingle jangle scarecrow, with a flippy, floppy hat
I
can shake my hands like this, I can tap my feet like that
When
all the children are sleeping
And
the moons behind the barn,
Up
jumps the scarecrow and sings right out loud.
Five Little Pumpkins
Five
little pumpkins sitting on the gate.
The
first one said oh my it’s getting late.
The
second one said there are witches in the air.
The
third one said well I don’t care.
The
fourth one said I am ready for some fun.
The
fifth one said lets run and run and run.
Oooo
went the wind and out went the light.
And
the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight
Jack O'Lantern Song
JackO'Lantern,
Jack O'Lantern
you
are such a pretty sight.
As
you sit there in the window
looking
out at the night.
You
were once a yellow pumpkin
Growing
on a sturdy vine.
Now
you are a Jack O' Lantern
See
your candlelight shine.
Jack
O'Lantern, Jack O'Lantern
you
are such a pretty sight
In
the day you're bright and yellow
In
the night you're filled with light.
Enjoy!

Carving our Pumpkin |
It's one of my favorite holidays as well, I was sorry to have the festivities so limited by the storm! We too did pumpkin carving, and visited a couple of friends in our costumes. I'm glad to see the children had this opportunity while we were away. We can't wait to come back tomorrow and see everyone!
